This Michigan winery's making the grade with its award winning wines.

Tucked away in a remote corner of the Leelanau Penninsula, Gill's Pier winery is a hidden gem that's quickly making its mark on Michigan's growing wine industry.

Opened in 2002 by Kris and Ryan Sterkenburg, Gill's Pier has already produced several award winning wines.

The winery's Cabernet Franc/Merlot took home a gold medal at the 2009 Michigan Wine and Spirits competition.

The Sterkenburgs came to Michigan from Wisconsin to open the winery and are comitted to creating incredible wines from grapes grown right here on the 45th Parallel.

Visitors come from all over to sample Gill's Pier wines in the unassuming but adorable tasting room. The converted pole barn is a must hit spot on any Michigan wine tasting tour.

In addition to the Cab/Franc tasters must be sure to sample the Just Unleashed. A delightful table wine that's perfect for any meal and pays homage to the winery's beloved dogs.
