The holiday season is upon us and our state's kicking it off with a slew of fun filled events surrounding Thanksgiving.

Being home for the holidays doesn't just have to mean massive amounts of turkey, family squabbles and sleeping in our childhood bedrooms. There are tons of fun filled, nationally known events happening throughout Michigan this weekend and next guaranteed to be a great time and perfect reminder of what it means to be a Michigander. Here are a few of our favorites.

America's Thanksgiving Parade, Detroit- One of the oldest and most respected Thanksgiving Day parades in the country, this Detroit classic is broadcast nationally each Thanksgiving morning. With a Parade route that travels along historic Woodward Avenue and an array of elaborate floats, balloons, celebrities and more this free event is a not to be missed classic.

For those looking to burn a few pre- pumpkin pie calories hit the street for the annual Turkey Trot which travels along the route before the parade kicks off. There's both a 5 and 10k course perfect for all fitness levels and proceeds benefit the Parade Company. For more information click here.

The Great Macaroni & Cheese Bake Off, Old Mission Penninsula, Traverse City- This day of delectable delights is the perfect excursion for fantastic times with friends. Featuring the seven penninsula wineries, attendees can delight in tasting incredible macaroni and cheese creations from some of northern Michigan's finest chefs.

Sip incredible wines and find your perfect pairing as you visit each of the wineries including: Chatea Chantal, Chateau Grand Traverse, Bowers Harbor, Black Star Farms, Two Lads, Brys Estate and Penninsula Cellars.

The possiblities are endless! It's all happening Saturday, November, 28. For more information click here.

25th Annual Silver Bells in the City, Lansing- Annually attracting more than 12,000 attendees this official lighting of the state's Christmas tree takes place Friday, November 20. With an evening of fantastic events including horse drawn sleigh rides, free admission to museums, entertainment, fireworks display and more it's the perfect kick-off to the season.
