The 16th Annual Woodward Dream Cruise is one of the largest, one-day automotive events in the world. Typically the event has 1.5 million people and over 40,000 classic cars from around the globe. This year the Dream Cruise is set to take place on Saturday, August 21, 2010. The event will be from 9:00am to 9:00pm and run through 8 different communities in Metro Detroit. These areas include: Berkley, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge, Pontiac, and Royal Oak. The 16 mile stretch will showcase muscle cars, street rods, custom collector, and special interest vehicles.
The first Dream Cruise coasted down Woodward in 1995. The cruise was originally started as a way to raise money for a local soccer field in Ferndale, Michigan. That year, 250,000 people participated in the event. This amount was nearly ten times the number that was anticipated. These days, nearly 100 different charities benefit from the sales of merchandise and refreshments alone. Also, a study that took place in 2007 estimated that he cruise produces 56 million dollars for the Metro Detroit economy.
